Vandana- Andhra Cuisine to beat the Monday Blues

20180514_220437.jpgYesterday was a Monday and after a long day at work the only way to self reward was to have some good food . I had heard about Vandana from a couple of my colleagues who stay towards Sarjapura, so when my husband came to pick me up I requested if we can visit this place. Both of us have stayed in Andhra & Hyderabad , so we are very fond of Andhra food. Recently I even had a hearty meal at a home chef’s house and still keep talking about the experience.

There was a bit of traffic on the road but spotting the place was not difficult .The restaurant is located on the first floor and it  has ample parking space. The interiors of the place will charm you , it’s really rich & attractive.

20180514_202026.jpg20180514_202459.jpgOnce we washed our hands and settled down – we minutely went through the menu & ordered for a couple of starters like seer fish fry and fish finger.

20180514_202453.jpgOn enquiring  what’s their recommended starters they told it’s paneer shoolay kebab & Apollo fish. Initially , i was skeptical  but thought of giving it a try & trust me the paneer shoolay kebab was amazing. Firstly by the appearance you cannot make out , it’s veg . Secondly, even after cooking it’s so soft it’s still in my fancy. I can’t get over it .

IMG_20180514_210025_Bokeh.jpgThe Apollo fish is more of an Indian Chinese but when served hot along with the veggies like capsicum and onion it’s hard to stop munching. I finished my share without realizing.

IMG_20180514_202416.jpgOut of the 4 starters we tried the fish finger was average , but all other three were worth having again.

Coming to mains , it was also the day when my husband and I where reminiscing our first drive out of the town for the #bbic meet so we ordered for mutton biriyani . It was  worth the little wait we had to . They used long grain rice and it’s mildly fragrant. But it’s light , so everyone can have , especially if you come out with kids.We shared the single serving we ordered & loved every morsel. The mutton was cooked to perfection where it’s tender yet not falling of the bone and that joy of having mutton biriyani is realized every time you dig into the pieces .

IMG_20180514_213445.jpgIdeally we should have called it an evening at this point, but looking around and seeing people have meals  I couldn’t resist . I had less of rice but tasted each item like the ghee-podi,pappu, kuda (raw banana), sambar, rasam, thick curd .The sambar was really nice and hot, it would also go very well with home made dosas. The curd is made in house , it’s very nice and thick. I had the same in the form of curd rice with gongura and loved it.

My husband is fond of sweets at the end of food  we ordered one gulab jamun and one helping of gajar ka halwa. Both proved nice to end the dinner with a sweet note.
This was way too much food for dinner, but as I said , after a long day at work this was the only fillip, so we both came back home talking about the great food and my hand smelling of ghee.

Vandana is about 15 months old, I wish they have another branch soon between bellandur central and Marathalli , to be able to visit regularly.
