Biriyani for Breakfast

Its said – Have breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince & dine like a pauper . But we in IT / ITES sector mostly follow the reverse. For once we thought of setting it right 🙂
Thanks to the initiative of  Bengaluru Biriyani Club  we set out on the first Biriyani trail , at 6.30 a.m. on a Sunday morning. Incredible as it may sound … we met after the KR Puram Hanging bridge sharp at 6.30 a.m. ( on other weekends , I have gone to bed at this time ). Destination :Anand Dum Biriyani , Hoskote .

This is a small outlet near Hoskote, running this business for the past 15 years . They operate only thrice a week – Wednesday, Friday & Sunday from 6.30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Their specialty is mutton biriyani. They prepare around 200kg of mutton biriyani which serves around 1400 plates . The queue of people in the outlet will tell you how popular is this place.
Apart from mutton biriyani, they serve chicken & paya. The biriyani is accompanied by raita – which is kept in a huge vessel  & you can help yourself, to your hearts’ content. You can have your biriyani and parcel it too.
The entire experience is awesome. I could not believe, instead of waking to a cuppa of coffee , we actually woke up to mutton biriyani. Small joint ,but they use eco friendly plates. All people serving there , wear skull caps, the parcel is not in plastic container or carry bags. The vessel is so huge – its an eye treat .You have to be there at least once , to experience the frenzy. They work from 2 a.m. to make this happen & this is entirely firewood dum biriyani. The lady who hands out the paya and the chicken , gladly obliges if you ask for paya soup in a glass. It tastes awesome – warm and slight hint of pepper is the just the right beverage at that point of time. Its not the price – but am sure the taste and novelty of this experience which made all of us travel all the way from Bangalore , that too sacrificing the Sunday morning sleep – to eat biriyani for breakfast !
Price : INR 160 per plate of mutton biriyani; 60 for chicken & 100 for paya.
Directions: Take the hanging bridge at KR Puram and keep driving towards Hoskote on NH 75. On reaching Hoskote take the first exit before the flyover and take the immediate left. You shall find the joint on your right after around 100 meters.

It is great to see that you cover smaller eateries as well – these are the real gems, where the taste of the food alone matters!

Wonderful article with in depth explanation. I was trying to imagine the rush a person gets to reach a place on time where something so delicious is made! I would like to call it ‘anand dum biryani’…’fuel for the day!’

Sounds like a feast and the pains taken to reach the place at an inconvenient time justifies the end. Though I do not eat meat but I am sure that if I had accompanied with my friends then they would have enjoyed a lot. Although nobody can beat the quality/taste/quantify of Biryani in Hyderabad I hope Anand Dum Biryani shall live up to our standards. Thank you Avril for a detailed story and I felt as if I was gliding along with you.

    1. Well , they are in business for 15+ yrs !! Their predictive analysis must have been built over time . The timings actually intrigued me too & think of Rajarshee even he joined & we loved it !!
